Verification of Inert Gas System Installation and Operation Condition
   
   Inert Gas System (IGS) ? SOLAS Requirements
SOLAS Chapter II-2, Regulation 4.5.5 contains the main requirements for inert gas systems.

The IGS is intended to inert, purge and gas-free cargo tanks and prevent the formation of a flammable atmosphere. For applicable tankers, the cargo tank atmosphere should generally be maintained at not more than 8% oxygen by volume and at a positive pressure.
The inert gas supplied to cargo tanks should normally contain not more than 5% oxygen by volume.

The IGS includes safety and monitoring arrangements such as:
- Inert gas blowers
- Scrubber
- Deck water seal
- Non-return arrangements
- Oxygen analyser and alarm
- Pressure monitoring and alarms
- P/V breaker
- Automatic shutdown arrangements
